Two-day Conducting Masterclass – Augustina Kapoti

Conductor Augustina Kapoti will analyze and present the principles of the art of orchestral conducting.

 

Biographical Note

  Born in Athens, Augustina Kapoti is a London based conductor with international projects in Boston, Graz, Berlin, Birmingham, St.Andrews, London and New York, where she has been collaborating with conductor Jeffrey Milarsky (Columbia University, Juilliard).

Augustina Kapoti, has been appointed Music Director, Artistic Director and Artistic Advisor in music non-profits while she has been serving as a judge on committees for competitions, auditions and interviews. Ms. Kapoti has been collaborating with Simon Halsey CBE invited by the later as a guest conductor to assist with his international projects among others at the: The Royal Albert Hall- BBC PROMS in London, Berlin Philharmonie, London Symphony Orchestra- Chorus, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra-Chorus, and the Palau de la Música Catalan in Barcelona, Spain.

Ms. Kapoti, is currently the Music Director and Artistic Advisor of the Philharmonic Orchestra at HYCO in Houston US. She has also been collaborating with the Houston Ballet Academy in US, the Southbank Sinfonia at the St. John’s Smith Square in London UK, the Presteigne Festival in Wales, the Jewish-British Music Organisation Zemel in London UK and the Mount Holyoke College Orchestra in Massachusetts USA. She has also been collaborating with internationally celebrated soloists, like pianist Sam Haywood appearing together at the Solent Music Festival in England.

Augustina has currently moved to Houston US invited by Professor Franz Krager and Dr. Rob Smith to pursue her Doctorate DMA in Orchestral Conducting awarded the Schissler Foundation Fellowship in Orchestral Studies C.W. Moores, Jr. Endowment for Teaching Fellowships in Music, the Hirsch Scholarship, and a full scholarship for her Doctorate at the University of Houston with Professor Franz Krager.

As a guest lecturer, Ms. Kapoti is being invited by Dr. Michael Beckerman, Chairman of the Music Department at New York University US to give series of lectures on “Conducting and Performance Practice” at New York University in Manhattan, while similar collaborations, include series of lectures and masterclasses Ms. Kapoti gives at Berklee College of Music in Boston US and at the International Portoheli Festival, Greece.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association and the Hellenic Professional Society of Texas Scholarship have awarded Ms.Kapoti scholarships as well in recognition of her Academic excellence and her outstanding Conducting achievements. Augustina was awarded special commendations at the International Orchestral Conducting Competition in Graz and The Conductors Institute in New York US.

She has studied Composition with Dr. P. Liaropoulos, G. Tsontakis, J. Tower, and her compositions were performed by the “Da Capo Chamber Players” in New York US.

Ms. Kapoti holds two Master’s Degrees in Conducting with full scholarship from Bard Conservatory New York USA with Dr.J. Bagwell and late H.Farberman and the University of Birmingham UK with Simon Halsey CBE while she was thoroughly mentored by S.Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music in London UK. Augustina, has also been invited by C.Metters, J.Schlaefli, P.Murphy, J.P.Saraste, S.Edwards and K.Kiesler to be part of their international orchestral conducting masterclasses under the auspices of organisations such as the University of St. Andrews in Scotland UK, the LEAD! Foundation, and the Royal Philharmonic Society in London UK.

Along with her Doctorate (in process) and two Master’s Degrees in Conducting, Ms. Kapoti also holds a Bachelor’s and an Integrated Master’s Degree in Musicology from the School of Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.
